Reel Talk Movie Discussion: Styx

Event Type: Adults
Date: 11/19/2021
Start Time: 3:30 PM
End Time: 4:30 PM
Description:
[Online] An ER doctor embarks on a one-woman sailing journey to Ascension Island in the Atlantic Ocean. When she comes across a sinking ship of refugees, she is quickly torn out of her contented and idealized world and must make a momentous decision.

Aptly named after the mythological river that separates the living from the dead, Styx is an astute modern-day parable of Western indifference in the face of marginalized suffering. Carrying practically the entire film, actor Susanne Wolff is remarkable in her riveting portrayal of a woman pushed to her physical, psychological, and moral limits.

Winner of three prizes at the Berlin International Film Festival. Official Selection at the Toronto International Film Festival.
