[Online] From wide-angle photographs of tragedy to close-up snapshots of people on the street, documentary photography can show the hidden corners of contemporary life and shed light on social issues. Photographer Lloyd DeGrane shares his in-depth experience documenting Chicago’s downtown homeless population and the devastating effects of America's opioid epidemic on that population, as well as other societal concerns. DeGrane’s work has appeared in the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Reader, Paris Match, and The Guardian also WTTW in Chicago, National Public Television and WBEZ.
