Native American Residential Schools: Recognizing Historic Trauma while Honoring the Victims and Survivors

[Online] Learn about the experiences at Native  American residential schools during an in-depth panel discussion featuring two experts: Rachel Fernandez, executive director of Maeqtekuahkihkiw Metaemohsak Inc., Woodland Women, and Kaila Johnston, supervisor of Education, Outreach, and Public Programming office of the Canadian National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR).

The Native American Voices Webinar Series is presented in collaboration with the College of DuPage Native American Studies Committee and partnering Illinois public libraries.

Ms. Fernandez, an advocate and speaker for the MMIWG2S Coalition to Stop Violence against Native Women movement, has worked with victims of domestic and sexual violence, counseled and advocated for victims of residential school abuse and trauma and has provided advocacy and support services to the Menominee Tribe of Wisconsin for over a decade.

Ms. Johnston oversees matters related to the support of educators, development of resources, establishment of outreach initiatives, as well as public engagement on residential schools and their legacy. She is directly in contact supporting and assisting survivors of Canada's Indigenous Residential Schools.
